Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp ginger, minced
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Green onions for garnish (optional)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Add the sliced flank steak and marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  • Stir-fry the Beef: Heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Stir-fry the marinated beef for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  • Cook the Onions: In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onions, garlic, and ginger, cooking for 5-7 minutes until the onions are softened and slightly caramelized.
  • Combine: Return the beef to the skillet with the onions. Add water, rice vinegar, and sugar, stirring to combine. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  • Serve: Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, if desired. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add sliced bell peppers or mushrooms to the stir-fry.
  • Flank steak is ideal, but sirloin or ribeye can be used as substitutes.
