Description

This Classic Italian Lasagna features layers of savory meat sauce, creamy ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses, all separated by tender sheets of pasta, baked to bubbly perfection.


Ingredients

  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; sauté until soft. Add ground beef; cook until browned. Stir in marinara sauce, basil, and oregano. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, salt, and pepper.
  5. In a baking dish, layer noodles, meat sauce, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers, ending with noodles topped with meat sauce and Parmesan cheese.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until cheese is golden and bubbly.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with a mix of vegetables such as mushrooms, zucchini, and spinach.
  • Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving to hold its shape better.
