Ingredients

For the Meat Sauce:

  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the Cheese Mixture:

  • 1 container (15 oz) ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Additional Ingredients:

  • 9 Creamette lasagna noodles, cooked according to package instructions
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated


Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the meat, onion, and garlic over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix ricotta cheese, 1 cup mozzarella, 1/4 cup Parmesan, egg, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  6. Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, spread a third of the cheese mixture, and then a third of the meat sauce. Repeat the layers.
  7. Finish with a layer of noodles, the remaining meat sauce, 2 cups mozzarella, and 1 cup Parmesan.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  9. Let it sit for 10 minutes before serving.
