Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Stir in marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese until well combined.
  • Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Layer with 4 lasagna noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, one-third of the mozzarella cheese, and one-third of the meat sauce. Repeat layers, ending with a final layer of noodles and meat sauce.
  • Sprinkle remaining mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese on top.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes to the meat sauce.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Lasagna can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to bake.
