Description

This French Onion Beef Casserole is a hearty and flavorful dish combining seasoned ground beef, creamy noodles, and the rich taste of French onion soup, topped with melted cheese and crispy fried onions. A simple comfort food dinner that's perfect for busy weeknights, made with ground beef, pasta, and French onion soup mix.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed French onion soup
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 cups uncooked egg noodles
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup crispy fried onions
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: garlic powder, thyme, or parsley for seasoning

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook egg noodles according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  • In a skillet, brown ground beef over medium heat. Season with salt, pepper, and optional seasonings. Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in the condensed French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, and sour cream with the beef. Cook for 2-3 minutes until combined and heated through.
  • Add the cooked noodles to the beef mixture and stir well.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish and top with shredded cheese.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, then sprinkle crispy fried onions on top and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For added texture, mix in sautéed mushrooms or green beans.
  • Swap out sour cream with Greek yogurt for a lighter version.
  • Make it ahead of time and freeze for a convenient meal later.
