Description
Brown Butter Pecan Pie Bars are a delicious twist on the classic pecan pie. Made with a buttery shortbread crust, rich brown butter, and a gooey caramel-like pecan topping, these bars are perfect for holiday gatherings or a cozy dessert. The nuttiness of the browned butter enhances the flavor, making each bite irresistibly decadent and flavorful.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter (for browning)
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¾ cup light brown sugar (packed)
- ½ cup maple syrup
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups pecans (chopped)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, stirring constantly until it turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma. Set aside to cool slightly.
- In a medium bowl, mix flour, powdered sugar, and salt. Add half of the browned butter and combine until a crumbly dough forms. Press the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes or until lightly golden.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the remaining brown butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir in chopped pecans.
- Pour the pecan mixture over the baked crust and bake for 25-30 minutes until the filling is set and the top is golden.
- Let the bars cool completely before slicing into squares.
Notes
- For a deeper flavor, use dark brown sugar instead of light.
- Let the brown butter cool before adding to the pecan filling to avoid scrambling the eggs.
