Ingredients
- 500g chicken pieces (with bones)
- 1 large onion, finely sliced
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, minced
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1 cup yogurt, whisked
- 1/4 cup oil or ghee
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot or pan, heat the oil or ghee. Add the cumin seeds and wait until they sizzle.
- Add the finely sliced onions and sauté until they become golden brown.
- Add the minced ginger and garlic to the pot and sauté for another 2 minutes.
- Incorporate the chicken pieces into the pot, and fry until they are browned on all sides.
- Mix in the red chili powder, turmeric, and coriander powder. Stir well to ensure the chicken is well coated with the spices.
- Gradually pour in the whisked yogurt, stirring continuously to prevent curdling. Add the slit green chilies.
- Once the yogurt is well incorporated, add enough water to cover the chicken and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat, cover, and let it simmer until the chicken is tender and fully cooked.
- Sprinkle in the garam masala and adjust salt according to taste.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
