Description

Creamy Tomato Basil Pasta is a rich and flavorful dish, combining ripe tomatoes and fresh basil with a smooth, creamy sauce that's both comforting and easy to make.

Ingredients

12 ounces pasta (such as penne or spaghetti)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes

1 teaspoon sugar

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving

Instructions

Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

Add crushed tomatoes, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.

Reduce heat to low and stir in heavy cream and basil. Cook until the sauce is heated through, about 2 minutes.

Toss the cooked pasta with the tomato cream sauce. Stir in Parmesan cheese.

Serve immediately, garnished with extra basil and Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half or whole milk for the heavy cream.

Add cooked chicken, shrimp, or vegetables like spinach or mushrooms for a more hearty dish.
