A perfect meal to serve over mashed potatoes or rice for an easy weeknight dinner with minimal effort.
Ingredients
- 2 lb beef round steaks
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, mix flour, salt, and pepper. Dredge the beef round steaks in the flour mixture.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the steaks on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Transfer to the crockpot.
- In the same skillet, sauté the onions, bell pepper, and garlic for 3 minutes until softened. Add to the crockpot.
- Pour diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, thyme, and oregano over the steaks and vegetables.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- Serve the Swiss steak over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, spooning the sauce over the top.
Notes
- For a thicker sauce, remove the lid during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
- You can also add carrots or celery to the slow cooker for extra flavor and texture.
