Description

This Crockpot Swiss steak recipe is a classic comfort dish made with tender beef steaks slow-cooked in a flavorful tomato sauce with onions and bell peppers. The beef becomes melt-in-your-mouth tender as it simmers for hours, absorbing all the savory flavors. Ingredients

  • 2 lb beef round steaks
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano

Instructions

  • In a shallow dish, mix flour, salt, and pepper. Dredge the beef round steaks in the flour mixture.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the steaks on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Transfer to the crockpot.
  • In the same skillet, sauté the onions, bell pepper, and garlic for 3 minutes until softened. Add to the crockpot.
  • Pour diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, thyme, and oregano over the steaks and vegetables.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  • Serve the Swiss steak over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, spooning the sauce over the top.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, remove the lid during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • You can also add carrots or celery to the slow cooker for extra flavor and texture.
