Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb Italian sausage (casings removed)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 cup marinara sauce (divided into 1/2 cup portions)
- 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, onion, milk, parsley, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined—don't overmix, or the meatloaf might become dense.
- Add 1/2 cup of marinara sauce to the mixture and blend well.
- Transfer the meat mixture to a loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Top with the remaining 1/2 cup of marinara sauce.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 50-55 minutes or until the meatloaf is nearly done.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top and return to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
