Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until creamy. Add molasses and egg, mixing well.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until dough forms. Divide dough in half, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Roll out dough on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
  • Place cookies on baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes. Cool on a wire rack before decorating.
