Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rice vinegar

- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp sambal oelek or red chili flakes
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp water (for cornstarch slurry)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine rice vinegar, 1/2 cup water, sugar, soy sauce, sambal oelek (or red chili flakes), and minced garlic.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
- In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry.
- Once the sauce is boiling, reduce the heat and slowly whisk in the cornstarch slurry.
- Continue cooking, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let cool. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Notes
For a milder sauce, reduce the amount of chili flakes or sambal oelek. If you prefer a thicker sauce, add a little more cornstarch slurry.
