Keywords: Salted Caramel Apple Pie, caramel apple pie, fall pie recipe, easy apple dessert.

Ingredients

  • Pie Crust:
    • 1 double pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • Apple Filling:
    • 6 cups peeled, sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
    • ¾ cup granulated sugar
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
    • ¼ tsp nutmeg
    • 2 tbsp flour
    • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salted Caramel Sauce:
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 6 tbsp butter, cubed
    • ½ cup heavy cream
    • 1 tsp sea salt
  • Egg Wash:
    • 1 egg, beaten
    • 1 tbsp water
  • Optional: Flaky sea salt for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Prepare the bottom crust: Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim the edges and set aside.
  • Make the apple filling: In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and lemon juice until well coated. Set aside.
  • Make the salted caramel sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar, stirring constantly until it turns golden brown. Carefully stir in the butter until melted, then slowly add the heavy cream (it will bubble). Stir until smooth, then add the sea salt. Let cool slightly.
  • Assemble the pie: Pour half of the salted caramel sauce over the apple mixture and toss to combine. Transfer the apples into the prepared pie crust. Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the apples.
  • Add the top crust: Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the apples. Trim and crimp the edges to seal. Cut small slits in the top for steam to escape, or create a lattice top if desired.
  • Egg wash: Brush the top crust with the beaten egg mixed with water.
  • Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly. Cover the edges with foil if they brown too quickly.
  • Cool for at least 1 hour before serving. Garnish with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt if desired.

Notes

  • For extra indulgence, serve with vanilla ice cream and drizzle more salted caramel sauce on top.
  • You can make the salted caramel sauce ahead of time and store it in the fridge.
