Ingredients

  • Cookie Bars:
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
    • ½ cup granulated sugar
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • ½ tsp salt
    • 1 cup M&M candies
    • ¾ cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • Optional: Extra M&Ms for topping

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  • Mix the wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  • Combine the dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring just until incorporated.
  • Fold in the M&Ms and chocolate chips: Gently fold in the M&Ms and chocolate chips (if using) until evenly distributed.
  • Spread the dough: Transfer the dough into the prepared baking pan, spreading it out evenly. Press a few extra M&Ms on top for decoration if desired.
  • Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. Do not overbake to keep them soft and chewy.
  • Cool and slice: Allow the cookie bars to cool in the pan before using the parchment overhang to lift them out. Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

  • For an extra gooey texture, slightly underbake the cookie bars.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
