Ingredients
For the Chocolate Cake:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour

- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda

- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil

- 1 cup boiling water

- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 oz Swiss dark chocolate, finely chopped

Instructions
- Prepare the Chocolate Cake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla, and mix until smooth. Gradually add boiling water, mixing continuously. Pour evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the Ganache: Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and pour over the chopped Swiss chocolate. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth.
- Assemble the Cake: Once the cakes have cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of ganache on top. Place the second cake layer on top and press down slightly. Pour the remaining ganache over the top, allowing some to drip down the sides.
- Decorate: Use melted white chocolate to create chalet-themed designs, perhaps a mountain or a little chalet. Garnish with fresh berries or mint and, if you like, a sprinkle of edible gold for that touch of Alpine luxury.
