Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground pork or sausage (optional)
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add ground beef (and ground pork, if using) to the pot, cooking until browned and crumbled. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
- Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Stir well.
- Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low.
- Add kidney beans and pinto beans. Cover and let simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Adjust seasoning to taste before serving. Serve hot, garnished with your favorite toppings.
