Ingredients
- 9 lasagna noodles
- 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
- 1 onion, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 24 oz jar marinara sauce (like Trader Joe's Organic Marinara Sauce)
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent. Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute.
- Add the ground beef or turkey to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked. Season with salt, pepper, and dried oregano.
- Pour the marinara sauce into the skillet, stir, and let simmer for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, half of the grated Parmesan cheese, chopped basil, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce at the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Spread a layer of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of meat sauce, and then sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Repeat this process for two more layers.
- Finish with a layer of noodles, topped with the remaining meat sauce, mozzarella, and the rest of the Parmesan cheese.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Remove from the oven and let sit for about 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For added veggies, consider layering in some spinach or zucchini.
- No-boil lasagna noodles can be used for convenience.
