Description

Dive into layers of rich and savory flavors with this lasagna recipe inspired by Trader joe's lasagna. With a blend of cheeses, seasoned meat, and pasta, this dish will be a family favorite in no time.


Ingredients

  1. 9 lasagna noodles
  2. 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
  3. 1 onion, finely diced
  4. 3 cloves garlic, minced
  5. 24 oz jar marinara sauce (like Trader Joe's Organic Marinara Sauce)
  6. 15 oz ricotta cheese
  7. 1 egg
  8. 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  9. 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  10. 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  11. 1 tsp dried oregano
  12. Salt and pepper to taste
  13. 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent. Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute.
  3. Add the ground beef or turkey to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and fully cooked. Season with salt, pepper, and dried oregano.
  4. Pour the marinara sauce into the skillet, stir, and let simmer for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, half of the grated Parmesan cheese, chopped basil, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  6. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce at the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
  7. Spread a layer of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of meat sauce, and then sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Repeat this process for two more layers.
  8. Finish with a layer of noodles, topped with the remaining meat sauce, mozzarella, and the rest of the Parmesan cheese.
  9. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
  11. Remove from the oven and let sit for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For added veggies, consider layering in some spinach or zucchini.
  • No-boil lasagna noodles can be used for convenience.
