Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes (about 3 medium potatoes)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp dried parsley (optional)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
- Stir in diced onion, garlic, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until onion softens, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat.
- In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes evenly. Sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese and half of the cooked beef mixture.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cheddar cheese, and beef.
- In a bowl, whisk together heavy cream and beef broth. Pour evenly over the casserole.
- Top with mozzarella cheese and cover with foil. Bake for 40 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly, and the potatoes are fork-tender.
- Garnish with dried parsley if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
- Use a mandoline to slice the potatoes evenly for faster and even cooking.
- Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Add a pinch of chili flakes for extra heat!
