Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, stirring just until combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
- Drop by rounded tablespoons onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden but the center is still soft.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

- For a variation, try adding coconut flakes or dried cranberries.
