Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef
  • ½ lb ground pork
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 6 oz mozzarella cheese block, cut into sticks
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Topping:

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, eggs, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Spread half the meat mixture into the prepared pan or shape it into a loaf on the baking sheet.
  • Lay the mozzarella sticks in the center, lengthwise, and cover with the remaining meat mixture. Seal the edges to encase the cheese completely.
  • In a small bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Spread evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
  • Bake for 50–60 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • Use pepper jack or cheddar cheese for a flavor twist.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Make ahead and freeze before baking for an easy dinner option later.
