Description

This Strawberry-Cabernet Barbecue Sauce combines the fruity sweetness of strawberries with the deep, robust flavors of Cabernet Sauvignon, creating a unique and gourmet BBQ sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 1 cup Cabernet Sauvignon wine
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the strawberries and Cabernet Sauvignon. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook until the strawberries are soft, about 10 minutes.
  2. Add the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper. Stir well to combine.
  3. Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer gently for 20-25 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency, stirring occasionally.
  4. Use an immersion blender to blend the sauce until smooth, or transfer the sauce to a blender, making sure to vent it to avoid pressure buildup.
  5. Strain the sauce through a fine mesh sieve to remove any seeds and ensure a smooth texture.
  6. Let the sauce cool, then transfer it to a jar or bottle and refrigerate for up to a week or use immediately.

Notes

  • The sauce can be used as a glaze for grilled meats, particularly pork or chicken.
  • Adjust the sweetness or spiciness by modifying the amount of brown sugar or cayenne pepper.
  • For a smokier flavor, consider adding a small amount of smoked paprika.
