Description
This Strawberry-Cabernet Barbecue Sauce combines the fruity sweetness of strawberries with the deep, robust flavors of Cabernet Sauvignon, creating a unique and gourmet BBQ sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
- 1 cup Cabernet Sauvignon wine
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- A pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the strawberries and Cabernet Sauvignon. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook until the strawberries are soft, about 10 minutes.
- Add the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer gently for 20-25 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency, stirring occasionally.
- Use an immersion blender to blend the sauce until smooth, or transfer the sauce to a blender, making sure to vent it to avoid pressure buildup.
- Strain the sauce through a fine mesh sieve to remove any seeds and ensure a smooth texture.
- Let the sauce cool, then transfer it to a jar or bottle and refrigerate for up to a week or use immediately.
Notes
- The sauce can be used as a glaze for grilled meats, particularly pork or chicken.
- Adjust the sweetness or spiciness by modifying the amount of brown sugar or cayenne pepper.
- For a smokier flavor, consider adding a small amount of smoked paprika.
