Description

This oven-fried chicken recipe delivers crispy, golden chicken that's packed with flavor while being healthier than traditional fried chicken.

Ingredients

  • 4 bone-in chicken thighs
  • 4 drumsticks
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Marinate chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.
  3. In a bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne.
  4. Remove chicken from buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, and coat in the flour mixture.
  5. Place coated chicken on the baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil or spray generously with cooking spray.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, flipping halfway through, until chicken is golden and cooked through.
  7. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, double-coat the chicken by dipping it back into buttermilk and flour.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce or a side of mashed potatoes.
