Ingredients

  • For the Chicken:
    • 2 lbs chicken wings (or drumettes)
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
    • 1 cup cornstarch
    • Oil for frying

    For the Sauce:

    • 3 tbsp soy sauce
    • 1/4 cup honey or corn syrup
    • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
    • 2 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 inch piece ginger, minced
    • 1 tbsp sesame oil
    • 2 tbsp water


Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Clean and pat dry the chicken wings. Season with salt and pepper. Toss the chicken wings in cornstarch until fully coated. Set aside.
  2. Fry the Chicken: Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil reaches about 350°F (175°C), add the chicken pieces without overcrowding the pan. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 10-12 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  3. Prepare the Sauce: In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, honey or corn syrup, rice vinegar, gochujang, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and water. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Coat the Chicken: In a large bowl, toss the fried chicken pieces with the sauce until evenly coated.
  5. Serve: Garnish with sesame seeds and thinly sliced green onions if desired. Serve immediately.
