Description
Experience the crispy, spicy, and savory flavors of zippy's korean fried chicken recipe, glazed with a delectable sauce and perfect for game day or any festive occasion.
Ingredients
- For the Chicken:
- 2 lbs chicken wings (or drumettes)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 cup cornstarch
- Oil for frying
For the Sauce:
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey or corn syrup
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch piece ginger, minced
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp water
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken: Clean and pat dry the chicken wings. Season with salt and pepper. Toss the chicken wings in cornstarch until fully coated. Set aside.
- Fry the Chicken: Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil reaches about 350°F (175°C), add the chicken pieces without overcrowding the pan. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 10-12 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, honey or corn syrup, rice vinegar, gochujang, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and water. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Coat the Chicken: In a large bowl, toss the fried chicken pieces with the sauce until evenly coated.
- Serve: Garnish with sesame seeds and thinly sliced green onions if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Adjust the spiciness by using more or less gochujang as per your preference.
